Opportunity Summary 

This site placement is only available to students with prior approval from Dolphin Pantry site staff.

General Service Duties 

  • Support the mission of the pantry
  • Attend a volunteer training
  • Be familiar with the volunteer manual and all pantry policies and procedures
  • Be aware of other resources and organizations available for pantry users
  • Be punctual, dependable, and reliable
  • Sign up for at least 1 hour a week shift
  • Protect the confidentiality of pantry users
  • Give the Pantry Coordinator at least 24-hour notice if you are sick.

INTERACTING WITH PANTRY USERS

  • Greet pantry users with a friendly and welcoming attitude
  • Ask users to complete an intake form
  • Relate with pantry users in a positive manner
  • Show genuine concern for all pantry users
  • Listen, be polite and serve in a professional manner
  • Report all concerns or problems to the Pantry Coordinator immediately

DISTRIBUTING FOOD

  • Help direct pantry users to specific foods upon request
  • Pack pantry users’ food in bags
  • Log the food taken by each pantry user

INVENTORY AND MAINTENANCE

  • Receiving donations
  • Track all donated food items
  • Stock shelves making sure to check expiration dates on canned goods
  • Sort through food items, evaluate their fitness, and discard expired food.

CLEANING

  • Wipe down shelves
  • Wipe down cans
  • Keep pantry neat and tidy
