Opportunity Summary
This site placement is only available to students with prior approval from Dolphin Pantry site staff.
General Service Duties
- Support the mission of the pantry
- Attend a volunteer training
- Be familiar with the volunteer manual and all pantry policies and procedures
- Be aware of other resources and organizations available for pantry users
- Be punctual, dependable, and reliable
- Sign up for at least 1 hour a week shift
- Protect the confidentiality of pantry users
- Give the Pantry Coordinator at least 24-hour notice if you are sick.
INTERACTING WITH PANTRY USERS
- Greet pantry users with a friendly and welcoming attitude
- Ask users to complete an intake form
- Relate with pantry users in a positive manner
- Show genuine concern for all pantry users
- Listen, be polite and serve in a professional manner
- Report all concerns or problems to the Pantry Coordinator immediately
DISTRIBUTING FOOD
- Help direct pantry users to specific foods upon request
- Pack pantry users’ food in bags
- Log the food taken by each pantry user
INVENTORY AND MAINTENANCE
- Receiving donations
- Track all donated food items
- Stock shelves making sure to check expiration dates on canned goods
- Sort through food items, evaluate their fitness, and discard expired food.
CLEANING
- Wipe down shelves
- Wipe down cans
- Keep pantry neat and tidy
