Hybrid Opportunity: TALB Community & Civic EngagementAt — TALB Community & Civic Engagement

Opportunity Summary

TALB is currently working on civic engage surrounding "equity" in our schools. What does that look like? Educating and reaffirming rights to organize (unions), voting rights (voter registration), community engagement (finding sites for community gardens for fresh produce for our community members living in "food deserts"). Engaging the community to look at educational outcomes and what does it really mean to be "career & college ready".

Opportunity Learning Outcomes

The intent is to have students understand the necessity of civic engagement. After the insurrection of January 6, 2021, a need to revitalize our democratic norms and prepare for further fascist attacks is critical. We would hope students would see that civic engagement is not an option, but a moral imperative.

Opportunity Training

For activities requiring training (which may include asking students to develop and research training for some programs which are being developed now) I will provide a weekly 30 minute zoom session to touch base with students and provide training. Though it is my hope that the activities students will be engage in, there will be very limited need for training.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity

There is no "known" safety concern. Our facility is well kept and functional. However, given the current political situation in this country, some of the issues we will delve into may be construed as controversial.
