Program Information

The student intern will develop safe guarding techniques to assist therapists with patients. They will ask questions and give input that demonstrates application of classroom knowledge to clinical practice. Lastly, the student will assist with routine operational tasks including rooming patients, cleaning rooms and gym equipment, filing charts and answering phone calls in a professional manner in order to assist the receptionist and aide. 

By the end of this opportunity, the student intern will become familiar with various clinical tests used to assess strength, range of motion, balance and mobility in patients in outpatient, inpatient, swing and long term care settings. By the end the student will have an improved appreciation of exercise and movement based approaches as a treatment modality, as well as a better understanding of the professional expectations and responsibilities of a physical therapist in a rural critical access hospital.
