Organization Description

The Food & Nutrition Services department is made up of a team of food and nutrition professionals that are dedicated to students' health, well being and their ability to learn. We support learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition and fitness practices. Meals, foods and beverages sold or served at schools meet state and federal requirements which are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines. We provide students with access to a variety of affordable and appealing foods that meet the health and nutrition needs of students.

Program Information

National School Lunch Program, School Breakfast Program observation in kitchens and in office administrative support work to include but not limited to: Recipe development, menu costing, HR and department policies/procedures, nutrition education with students and staff, staff trainings, special event development and implementation, budgeting and kitchen design.

By the end of this opportunity, students interns will have learned: menu creation for school nutrition, agencies that regulate school nutrition and rules and regulations of nutrition programs in schools, commodity foods, food supply chain in school nutrition, menu feedback and plate waste with students and staff.
