Opportunity Summary 

Internship is expected to be 20+ hours a week, broken down as follows:

  1. Trainees will have approximately 10 to 14 clinical hours per week comprised of 4-5 individual clients, 2-4 community-based clients (*COVID-19 impacts community cases and may be in-clinic only), 1-2 collateral clients, and 1-2 case management clients.
  2. Trainees will be responsible for conducting comprehensive intake assessments.
  3. Trainees will be responsible for completing required clinical documentation (e.g., treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summaries).
  4. Trainees will have the opportunity to attend School of Medicine grand rounds, and other training activities as available.
Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Over the course of the one-year program, it is expected that trainees will develop the following competencies:

  1. Become proficient in conducting intake assessments, making diagnoses, developing treatment plans, providing clinical case management, and community based behavioral intervention.
  2. Develop cultural competency in assessing and treating a multicultural population.
  3. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills needed to conduct individual therapy for children and adolescents.
  4. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills need to conduct empirically-supported treatment (Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavior Therapy).
  5. Use knowledge of current research in the areas of intervention, assessment, and child maltreatment to guide assessment and treatment.
  6. Develop and refine skills in consulting with school and other systems involved in children’s and adolescents’ lives.
  7. Work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  8. Become knowledgeable on issues concerning MFTs/MSWs such as reporting laws, confidentiality, ethics, consultation, and supervision.
  9. Demonstrate an ability to be self-reflective and make a realistic assessment of strengths and weaknesses as a developing professional in the field of clinical psychology.
Opportunity Training 

Internship begins July 1st and goes until June 30th. The first 3 weeks in July are training intensive where interns will attend and participate in UCD Health required training and Sacramento County required trainings. Trainings include Avatar training for billing as well as:

  1. APS/CPS Reporting
  2. CSEC Webcourse
  3. TF-CBT
  4. CANS
  5. Suicide Assessment & Safety Planning
  6. Early Identification of Psychosis
  7. * Parenting Track will be trained and certified in PC-CARE.
Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Interns are never to transport clients

Interns are required to consult and report to their supervisor any risks identified in clients, including but not limited to Suicidal ideation, self injurious behaviors, homicidal ideation, any form of abuse/CPS report, psychiatric hospitalization of a client, etc.

Per COVID-19, PPE is required when seeing clients and in the clinic. Required PPE is provided.
