Aggie House

Organization Description

Students 4 Students is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that oversees three student-run transitional shelters for students facing housing insecurity and homelessness at UCLA, USC, and UC Davis. Aggie House, the shelter at UC Davis, is planning on opening in September 2021. Our mission is to provide students in need with housing, food, and holistic case management. Aggie House is currently building a case management program to aid our residents in their transition to stable living environments and help connect them with resources that they can utilize in the future.

Program Information

Case management interns will aid in the application review, interviewing, and intake process of new residents at the beginning of each academic quarter throughout the year. Then they will be assigned residents and work to provide them support and connect them with housing, mental health, academic, food, insurance, and employment resources. Interns will be required to check in with their assigned residents on a weekly basis, either in-person or virtually. To help determine the best resources and courses of action to help residents, interns will also meet with members of the Aggie House Board of Directors, the Field Instructor, the Medical Case Management team, and various basic needs employees at UC Davis. In addition, interns will be responsible for compiling and updating a list of local resources for students that can be utilized by the case management team and residents who transition out of the program. This will also require them to reach out to and meet with contacts from various local organizations to gather up-to-date information and develop relationships with potential community partners.

Health & Safety

Aggie House is currently taking many precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19 once the shelter opens. All of our volunteers have reported that they are or will be fully vaccinated upon opening, and residents will be required to either be vaccinated or tested frequently. To help keep everyone at Aggie House safe, we will ask that any interns that are not fully vaccinated get tested frequently if they plan to enter the shelter facility.

Hours of operation

Because the day-to-day operations of Aggie House are performed by student volunteers, our typical hours are from 7 pm to 9 am on weekdays and 24/7 on weekends. However, if interns are unable to complete all their necessary hours during those times, they may be allowed to open the shelter during the day to hold their private meetings with residents and utilize the office to complete some of their work.
