Case Management InternAt — Aggie House
Aggie House is a transitional housing shelter for students experiencing housing insecurity, homelessness, or unsafe living conditions. Located in a townhouse in Davis with a capacity for 10 residents, many day-to-day operations of Aggie House are done by UCD student volunteers. Case Management Interns are critical to the Aggie House structure, and connect residents to local resources to help them eventually transition to stable housing. Interns meet with their assigned residents weekly to understand their needs. They also help monitor resident applications, participate in resident interviews, conduct intake assessments, and organize resource lists for both current residents and applicants. Frequent communication with advisors from UCD student centers, the Aggie House Board of Directors, and our Field Site Supervisor allows interns to have a comprehensive network that will allow them to learn about financial, housing, food, healthcare, and legal resources available to residents.
Students will learn how to work professionally for a direct-service nonprofit organization. With the support of their Field Site Supervisor and UCD campus partners, students will conduct interviews and intake assessments for the demographic of diverse college students experiencing basic needs insecurity. They will learn how to conduct research to better understand the clients’ needs, the resources available to them, and how to act as advocates for the clients within the university setting. With this knowledge, they will have the opportunity to provide case management to clients on both an individual level and in group workshop settings.
Student interns will be required to complete all training required for Aggie House volunteers, including topics such as supporting victims of sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking or sexual harassment, supporting scholars in distress, and Aggie House policy and protocol. Additionally, interns will be required to attend training with the Field Site Supervisor prior to beginning meetings with residents or resident interviews, and will be required to take detailed notes for their supervisor to review, while also adhering to Aggie House privacy and confidentiality protocol.
Aggie House prioritizes the safety of residents, volunteers, and student interns at all times. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we reserve the right to move as many organizational operations online as possible, to limit the number of people going within the facility. If the majority of our operations are moved online, student interns will be expected to conduct all meetings and work remotely. Student interns will also be expected to adhere to all COVID-19 safety guidelines and vaccination requirements set by UC Davis.
