School Social Work Intern At — Natomas USD-Main Office
As a BSW or MSW Intern with NUSD you will receive hands-on learning experience working with a diverse student body, their families and multidisciplinary teams across the District to support students’ academic engagement, achievement and social/emotional well-being. School Social Workers are placed at one or two school sites (depending on program requirements) and work in tandem with our Site Social Workers and/or School Psychologists to provide direct service support to students, families, teachers and administrators. This internship requires that you take initiative and develop strong problem solving skills while upholding the social work ethics and values. You will engage in activities within the Multi-Tier System of Supports (MTSS) in accordance with your school-site’s unique needs and strengths. This can include case management, facilitation of individual and group counseling, behavioral intervention, consultation, classroom presentations and restorative justice interventions, as well as school-wide program development and implementation.
Students will receive a full day of formal onboarding and training at the start of the internship experience. Interns will initially shadow their field instructor and participate in web-based training on topics including child abuse, restorative practices, attendance, social-emotional learning, McKinney Vento and more. During intern supervision, we provide trainings on all thing related to working within the education system including SST/504/IEPs, Trauma Informed Practices, Foster/Homeless Laws, Suspensions/Expulsions, Boundaries/Countertransference, Group Counseling, Rapport/Engagement building etc.
We adhere to California Department of Public Health COVID 19 safety procedures and guidelines. We offer weekly testing. All staff are required to wear masks.
