Opportunity Summary 

MSW interns are placed with our Partial Hospitalization Program. This program provides hospital diversion and post-hospitalization treatment in a day treatment setting. The population served in this program include: youth who are at risk of being hospitalized at a psychiatric facility or are transitioning out of psychiatric hospitalization; youth who are diagnosed with a behavioral health disorder, such as a depressive disorder, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, unresolved issues of grief and loss, and post-traumatic stress disorder; as well as youth who are experiencing emotional dysregulation, which may be manifested as suicidal ideation, self-injurious behaviors, conflict with family members, problems with peers, and academic difficulties.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Interns in this program will learn to implement a variety of therapeutic interventions with a diverse caseload of youth ages 10-17. Experience will be gained in both individual and group formats. They will have exposure to Private Health Insurance Systems including Kaiser, Magellan, and Anthem Blue Cross. Practice with documentation with be gained including progress note writing and biopsychosocial assessments.

Opportunity Training 

Students receive a variety of training throughout the internship program including SOGIE training, training on Trauma-Informed Care, training/exposure/practice with Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mandated Reporter Training, and others.
