BSW Internship At — Children's Receiving Home of Sacramento

Opportunity Summary

The BSW interns are placed in our Supporting Community Connections Program. Target population for this program's services will be youth who fall between the ages of 12-25 years old and identify as LGBTQ+, homeless, or current/former foster youth. The overall goal of the program is to prevent suicide by offering connections to supports, resources and other social services in Sacramento County so youth feel healthy, empowered, and connected. Our strengths-based approach focuses on supporting youth in learning about and empowering them to access needed resources and supports to promote health and wellbeing. Services are intended to do the following: decrease suicide risk, divert youth from crisis services or decrease the need for such services, increase knowledge and utilization of available culturally relevant resources and supports and, enhance connectedness and reduce isolation.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes

They will learn to build rapport and provide support to our target population (12-25 year olds) both in 1:1 settings and in group settings. They will have opportunities to observe/participate in all levels of practice including Macro, Mezzo, and Micro. They will gain community outreach experience via in-person outreach events and through virtual platforms including social media. Students will have the opportunity to interface with multiple community-based organizations including attending community meetings and network with other local agency partners.
