In placement, either at the men's house, or women's house, student will immediately be part of the treatment team and will have the opportunity to observe and shadow clinical staff, and when ready have a client to work with directly. Student will also have the opportunity to observe and participate in groups as well as facilitate groups.
Student will understand addiction including the path to, as well as treatment and recovery thereof. Student will have completed an assessment, treatment plan, and discharge plan.
Training is ongoing throughout placement. First the student will shadow professionals in all services offered in the agency. Task supervisor will offer orientation to the agency. Field Supervisor will meet with student weekly to answer any questions and teach the nature of addiction and treatment that is offered by the agency. Student will attend a 10 hour training on the ASAM criteria for assessing persons with substance use disorders.
The student will be oriented to safety measures of the agency and the student will not be alone in the agency without other staff at any time.
