Adult Correctional Health Social Work Intern At — UC Davis Health System - Adult Correctional Mental Health

Opportunity Summary 

Adult Correctional Mental Health provides psychiatric care for individuals incarcerated in the Sacramento County Jail. Social workers facilitate diagnosis, evaluation, and planning of treatment for patients; this includes both group and individual treatment. Interns will have the opportunity to shadow, cofacilitate and facilitate intake assessments, individual treatment sessions, and group treatment. Internship opportunities at the Main Jail downtown and Rio Consumnes Correctional Center in Elk Grove.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Biopsychosocial assessment, case management, group facilitation and crisis intervention.

Opportunity Training 

Interns will participate in onboarding that will include a tour of the facility, overview and tour of all mental health programs, and review of policies and procedures. Interns will have the opportunity to participate in routine trainings in suicide prevention, suicide risk assessment, effective communication and other clinical areas.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Must be able to work effectively within a stressful, hazardous environment with rapidly changing priorities and deadlines. Willingness to work under an institutional "No Hostage Policy." Must be able to pass and maintain the Sacramento Sheriff Department's Security Clearance. Ability to work in a highly stressful jail custody selling, with incarcerated inmates which may present hazardous conditions, including working in a potentially crowded, malodorous, and noisy environment, of a highly restrictive and confining nature.
