Elementary School Experience! At — Roseville City School Dist. - Student Services Department
Have you ever wanted to work with the TK-5th grade population of students in a school? Roseville City School District has been hosting MSWI and MSW II students for 10 years. Interns will experience what the typical school social worker does to support the general health and wellness on a school campus. School Social Workers are mental health providers that help school sites navigate the social-emotional-behavioral needs of students and support with attendance needs, linking families with community based agencies, providing individual and group counseling interventions, and helping classroom teachers and administrators to understand the impacts of situations that students face that could be traumatic.
By the end of the internship, students will have learned how to support students 1:1, in a group setting, presenting classroom lessons using research validated curriculum and the latest social-emotional-learning supports. Social Work interns will understand the needs of the general education population as well as students in foster care, homeless situations, students on 504 plans, and students receiving special education. Teaching trauma informed care and sensitivity education are paramount as one aspect of a social workers role in a school setting . Social Work interns will learn about the varying community organizations in Placer county that support specific populations of students on campus ( youth experiencing homelessness, health & wellness agencies, extra curricular activities for limited income families).
Social Work Interns will be linked to various professional development opportunities in the school setting and the larger city of Roseville and Placer County Communities. Many trainings for interns will be via zoom or other online opportunities.
Social Work Interns will follow the school district safety protocols that are remote trainings prior to the start of the internship.
