Opportunity Summary 

Increasing number of older adults are living longer with multiple health concerns that require day-to-day caregiving. Families, relatives, and concerned friends carry most of these responsibilities without any formal training or support. Please join our Caregiver Support Team and learn how to support these vulnerable population to better navigate through the complex long term care systems. Bridge to Healthy Families is a program that seeks to improve access to comprehensive support services for family caregivers and their care receivers. Various caregiving support services are provided including; • Care assessment and home safety check • Care consultation and management • Benefits check up • Support groups and Educational programs • Information and referral for; Respite care, Meal delivery service, Transportation services, Placement services for care facilities, Finding in-home caregiver, Legal and financial services, Home modification, Medical alert and security devices, Utility assistance, etc.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Students will have learned; -Complex nature of challenges that seniors and their caregiving families face in regards to their physical, mental, and social aspects of life. -Good knowledge on public policies and local resources/programs needed by seniors and their caregiving families. -How to conduct care assessment and consultation.

Opportunity Training 

-Training videos for all volunteers including interns: Elder Abuse Prevention and Mandated Reporting (25 minutes), and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (a.k.a. HIPAA, 21 minutes). After watching the training videos, volunteers are asked to sign the associated waiver for each video. -Volunteer Application Packet: Volunteers are asked to read and sign several waivers pertaining to ACC's policies on volunteers; these include our General Release and Liability Waiver, Photo & Video Release Waiver, Protection of Private Information Policy, Volunteer Code of Conduct, Private Vehicle Use Policy, and Receipt of Volunteer Policy Handbook acknowledgement. -CDA Security Awareness Training: interns are asked to complete the training online and submit a copy of certification. -Program orientation and training: interns who participate in providing care assessment and management services are provided with training on various topics related to serving seniors and their caregiving families by reviewing literatures and program materials, attending webinars and educational workshops, and shadowing program staff, etc.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

COVID-19 Policy: All volunteers including interns at ACC are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19; meaning they have received both doses of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccination, or have received one dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccination, and that at least two (2) weeks have passed since the final dose. We are strongly recommending everyone receive their booster shot prior to volunteering. -Temperature check and symptom report/sign-in are required for all who enter ACC campuses. Mask wearing, social distancing, and hand hygiene are mandatory as well.
