Monterey Peninsula College Student Health Services

Organization Description

Monterey Peninsula College is an open-access institution that fosters students learning and achievement within its diverse community. MPC provides high-quality instructional programs, services, and infrastructure to support the goals of students pursuing a transfer, basic skills, and lifelong learning opportunities.

Program Information

We will have 2 positions open at the start of each academic year- either a generalist or advanced is welcome to apply. MSW interns will have an opportunity to carry a caseload of college students from diverse backgrounds presenting with a variety of mental health issues and socio-economic barriers, and participate in weekly individual/group supervision. The MSW will provide individual therapy services, facilitate support groups and conduct wellness workshops/presentations. In addition to therapy, MSW interns actively participate in outreach on the MPC campus and have the opportunity to develop connections with Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula and other Monterey agencies. They will have the freedom to work on the micro, mezzo and macro levels. The MSW interns have flexibility with scheduling, similar to private practice. They will be a part of the collaborative efforts between CHOMP, CSUMB's MSW & BSN programs and the Blue Zones Project to make up the Health & Well-Being Council for Monterey Peninsula College. MSW students are viewed as young professionals and are given many opportunities in both clinical work and program development to gain the knowledge and skills to be a professional social worker.

Health & Safety

Though uncommon, certain risks inherent in internship placement include, but are not limited to; commuting to and from placement site, providing services to individuals or families that may become unpredictable, angry, or violent; exposure to communicable infectious diseases.
Being aware of surroundings, always have an exit plan, clear communication with task and field supervisor, wear comfortable clothing, closed-toe shoes and review MPC's safety guide are tips to help keep you safe.
