Program Information

Field students will receive an introduction and immersion into social work in a school setting. Santa Cruz City Schools has 6500 students in TK-12 grades. There are three high schools, one continuation school for at risk students, two middle schools and four elementary schools. You will have the opportunity to work with more than one age group if desired. Our schools range from 30% Hispanic to 65% Hispanic. Twenty per cent of our students are English Language Learners. You will also work with Migrant, Foster and Homeless Youth. You will receive training in case management, partnering with community service providers as well as providing clinical counseling services. Supervision will be individual and group. Training is available on a number of areas including LGBTQ youth, suicide prevention and intervention, substance use prevention and intervention, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, Self Care. Our District is a trauma informed district.
We provide a modest stipend.

Health & Safety

<p>All Field study students are required to vaccinated for COVID and must provide the district with a copy of their vaccination record before placement can start. Field study students do not work alone. They are accompanied on all home visits by a licensed clinician. They are in an office with other counseling professionals. Onsite supervision is provided.</p>
