Program Information

MSW interns completing a direct practice field placement at Stanford Health Care will have the unique opportunity to experience clinical social work in both acute hospital and ambulatory clinic settings. MSW interns will develop clinical skills focused on the assessment and evaluation of a patients' level of adjustment to illness, including acute, chronic, and end of life experiences. Interns will learn skills required for the completion of comprehensive bio-psychosocial assessments, evaluations and providing appropriate clinical recommendations. Additionally, interns will learn to coordinate patient treatment plans with multi-disciplinary team members, facilitate care conference meetings, and develop collaborative discharge planning options.

The clinical service line areas available for MSW intern placements include:
Solid organ transplant (Heart / Lung / Kidney / Liver), ambulatory clinic, psychiatry, critical care, oncology.

Health & Safety

<p>There is a small risk to exposure to illness, however the intern would be monitored by supervisors and told prevention equipment to when appropriate.
Safety precuations are rare and case specific.</p>
