Long Beach Organic

Organization Description

We are a non-profit organization operating nine organic community gardens in the city limits of Long Beach, CA. Founded in 1994, we locate urban vacant lots from public and private owners and turn them into beautiful community gardens for local and sustainable food production. Garden plots are rented on a six month basis, March to Aug and Sept to Feb.

Program Information

Long Beach Organic, (LBO) is a local non-profit whose mission is to turn empty lots into organic gardens. We currently operate eight community gardens in the city of Long Beach and we are planning a ninth. We serve over 220 households, who rent space to grown healthy food for their tables. We also have space set aside as Giving Gardens, and have a weekly harvest for food banks.

Health & Safety

Our garden membership is very diverse, and we try our best to accommodate people of all abilities and ages.

Interns will be working outdoors. Water and sun protection are important. Plan to wear close toed shoes and clothes that can get dirty. Interns will sign a volunteer waiver of liability and photo release.
