The mission of the YMCA of Greater Long Beach is to welcome people of all ages, ethnic groups and affiliations to unite in a common effort to promote Youth Development, Healthy Lifestyles and Social Responsibility. The Community Development YMCA's mission is to outreach to the lowest income communities in Long Beach with the highest quality most cutting edge programs designed to move our families out of poverty.

Program Information

The YMCA of Greater Long Beach is a non-profit organization that has been serving the children and youth of this community for over 125 years. The Early Childhood Education Department (ECE), specifically, has been serving families and children between the ages of 19 months and 5 years in Long Beach for over 28 years. The YMCA Early Childhood Education Programs serve our community’s most at-risk, low-income children and families. The YMCA Early Childhood Education Programs are designed to develop children’s love for learning, discovering and growth. At the Y we are committed to our Focus Areas when working with families and communities: for youth development; for healthy Living; and for social responsibility. The YMCA ECE programs operate 5 preschool programs in the cities of Long Beach and Bellflower.

Health & Safety

Children 18 months to 5 years of age.

Interns may not take photographs of the preschool students.

Students will be working alongside the lead teacher in the classroom, therefore, being supervised most of the time.
