REMOTE CovEducation Mentorship / Peer Student Leader (optional)At — CovEducation

Opportunity Summary

Looking for a way to give back to the community? Passionate about educational equity? Join CovEd in providing mentorship to K-12 youth! We are currently seeking undergraduate/postgraduate/grad students to volunteer virtually as mentors for K-12 students, particularly those with limited access to educational resources. If you’d like to connect with a student, please consider signing up to be a mentor at bit.ly/coved-mentor-signup! Mentors serve not only as a source of academic support, but as role models for the student they work with. This will provide an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to students who have trouble accessing learning materials and mentorship.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes

- How to recognize signs of and support students through mental/emotional stress, via socioemotional learning curriculum - A diverse range of mentorship styles and how to tailor them toward their mentee's strengths and challenges. - Training in pedagogy, workload management, and socioemotional skills before working with students - How to adapt to and provide feedback on mentorship effectiveness when working with students and peer mentors - How to engage students in a virtual learning environment.

Opportunity Training

We have worked with Research Professors from UC San Diego (Sally Sadoff), Brown University (Matthew Kraft), and Bentley University (Jeff Livingston) to develop a mentor training curriculum for effective pedagogy, student engagement, recognizing signs of mental/emotional stress, and socioemotional skills. All mentors are required to undergo a two-hour training workshop, and will be provided a detailed, week-to-week guideline on interacting with mentees. In addition, there will be peer-led meetings and supervised mentorship sessions to offer feedback on mentorship and allow mentors to adapt to and learn from new styles.
