Monterey Jazz

Organization Description

The Monterey Jazz is dedicated to perpetuating the uniquely American form of music known as jazz by producing performances that celebrate the legacy and expand the boundaries of jazz; and by presenting year-round local, regional, national, and international jazz education programs. The Monterey Jazz is a non-profit organization and has donated its proceeds to musical education since its inception in 1958.

Program Information

Monterey Jazz Festival: Occurs every year in September at the Monterey County Fairgrounds. This 3-day event runs from mid-morning until 10pm at night each day.

Traveling Clinicians / Monterey County Honor Ensembles: For one week a month during the school year, Monterey Jass sends top professional musicians to work with students in classrooms throughout Monterey County, helping them develop their jazz skills. 

Next Generation Festival: Every Spring, Monterey Jazz invites the top student musicians from across the county and around the world to participate in the Next Generation Festival. Participants vie for a chance to play on the stages of the Monterey Jazz Festival, for a spot in the Next Generation Jazz Orchestra, and for awards, scholarships, and cash prizes.
