Opportunity Summary 

Students who intern with LBO will enjoy healthy outdoor activity, maintaining community gardens, planting, nurturing and harvesting organic vegetables, working with gardeners of all ages and backgrounds.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Interns will learn a great deal about sustainable organic growing methods, composting, soil building, and carbon trapping. They will experience growing vegetables from seed to harvest, and will taste the fruits of their labors. They will have a better sense of the diversity that is part of Long Beach, and they will observe a small non-profit in operation.

Opportunity Training 

Proper use of gardening tools, composting methods, soil preparation and planting. For small construction projects, the use of power tools and basic construction methods.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Students should be in reasonable physical condition to perform gardening tasks. Awareness of hydration and sun protection and important. Rest and breaks will be provided as needed.
