Opportunity Summary 

Join the Monterey Natural Resources Volunteer Crew! With this opportunity, we'll be working on habitat restoration projects at eight different California State Parks:

  • Fort Ord Dunes State Park (Marina),
  • Asilomar State Beach (Pacific Grove),
  • Carmel River State Beach (Carmel),
  • Ishxenta State Park (Carmel),
  • Point Lobos State Natural Reserve (Carmel),
  • Garrapata State Park (Big Sur),
  • Andrew Molera State Park (Big Sur), and
  • Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park (Big Sur).

Our volunteer crew does a wide range of activities: pulling invasive weeds, seed collecting, greenhouse work, planting native plants, watering, maintenance, and more!

As a Service Learner, you'll have opportunities to work with State Parks Staff, experienced volunteers, and the public. You'll learn about native plants, invasive species, and local ecology from hands-on projects in the field.

There are approximately 12, three-hour events each month. Events are from 9am - 12pm on the following days of the month:

  • Mondays - 2nd
  • Tuesdays - 4th
  • Wednesdays - 2nd, 3rd, & 4th
  • Thursdays - 2nd
  • Fridays - every!
  • Saturdays - 2nd, & 3rd

Attending every event is not required, but Service Learners are responsible for attending enough events to complete their required hours.

Opportunity Training 

All required training will be conducted on site as part of our regularly scheduled volunteer days.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

Students will be working outside, with natural hazards (sun, wind, cliffs, poison oak, ticks, etc.) and with basic hand tools (shovels, picks, etc.)
