Opportunity Summary 

The Oceanographic Teaching Stations, Inc., the non-profit organization that manages the Roundhouse Aquarium, offers students hands-on learning opportunities on the inner workings of a small aquarium. Students will be given a well-rounded program to learn about animal care, student and public education, fundraising and outreaches,

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Students will have learned: 1) how small, non-profit aquariums work 2) basic animal care 3) program coordination 4) informal science instruction 5) guest relations and public education

Opportunity Training 

There are multiple opportunities for students to participate. All students will be given the following training: 1. Onboarding 2. Shadowing of animal care, virtual classes, onsite field trips, outreach events and public education. They will shadow a minimum of two sessions for each area.

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

OTS employs the buddy system when working on aquarium projects. Each student will be paired up with staff or another volunteer at all times when carrying assignments at the aquarium or at schools or event locations.
