Adoption Center - SPCAAt — SPCA of Monterey County
Primary Objective: To enrich the experiences of adoptable animals and customers, and enhance the smooth operation of the SPCA Adoption Center.
Minimum Time Commitment: One 3-hr shift per week for 3 months
Shifts: You will sign-up for your shift in your volunteer orientation and they are assigned on a first come first serve basis.
Duties and Responsibilities (may include all or some of the following):
- Spot clean kennels, condos, windows, play yards, clean litter boxes
- Assist customers by answering questions, providing leashes, and helping them get dogs/cats/small animals in and out of enclosures
- Laundry, dishes, stocking cabinets, filling water bowls
- Keep walking logs and report animal injuries or symptoms to staff
- Walk and socialize adoptable dogs
- Socialize cats/small animals
Volunteer Attributes:
- Comfort in handling animals and experiencing noise and smells
- Ability to engage people in a friendly and helpful manner
- Self-motivated and able to work independently and safely
Requirements:
- $30 Volunteer Administration Fee (Covers your background check and t-shirt) (Student responsible for payment)
- Background Check for anyone 18 years old and older
- Students will have to attend an in-person 1hr orientation (which does not count towards your community service hours).
- Attend the required Adoption Center training (Tour and Dog Handling training for those working with dogs).

- Select "Yes, I need to complete 25+ hours" for the service hours question.
- Indicate in the Comments that you are a CSUMB service learner
After you complete the form, staff will contact you to review your availability and schedule an orientation.
You will also need to complete additional paperwork for the SPCA in addition to registering your placement in CSUMB's system. All CSUMB paperwork will be signed after your SPCA orientation. Please do not send CSUMB forms prior to your orientation.
