Opportunity Summary 

Cabot's Museum Foundation mission is to promote and preserve Cabot Yerxa's legacy of cultural respect, education, art, community, and the desert habitat. We impart Cabot's story by touring the historic building he created, sharing his accomplishments and ideals, and his various creative outputs: he was a writer, artists, and builder.

In addition, our programs, Day of the Dead, Earth Day, and Cultural Weekends strife to meet our mission of cultural respect and education. Our school program, Making a Difference, is about local history and civic provide . We serve the Palm Springs Unified School District. Our audience for the school program is the students living in the city of Desert Hot Springs and we are slowly increasing
students in Cathedral City and Thousand Palms. Our general audience are people traveling and local visitors bring their guests. Their ages various from 18-80, with median age being 50 years.

Selected Fellows will: 

  • Assist with and implement lessons of the 2nd grade program, Making a Difference;
  • Assist with community programs,
  • Support with Day of the Dead and Earth Day;
  • Assist with Cultural Weekends;
  • Assist once a week with the museum tours

Preferred Skills: 

  • Comfortable and willing to work with the public and students
  • Good communication and writing skills
  • Detail oriented in their tasks and projects
  • Flexibility in adjusting to situations i.e.: class is larger than expected, class does not show up due to other circumstances
