VolunteerAt — Howard Gardner Community Charter School
At HGCS, CSUSM students will have the opportunity to volunteer working with students in Tk-8th Grade. Students will be placed in a classroom to observe teachers and students interactions. At times, they will be asked to help make lesson plans with the teachers support. CSUSm students will interact with students from HGCS and support students during their academics and free time. Students will be able to observe our littles during recess, lunch, pe, and in classrooms.
Students will learn how to support students in grades Tk-8th grade in their academics, how to resolve conflicts between students, how to advocate for students, how to be a Teachers Aide in a classroom, how to work and differentiate learning for our Special Education and English Learner population, and how to work with the teachers and other staff to implement new strategies in the classrooms.
Students will have guidiance from their grade level teacher and administration support. They will be able to attend all professional development that HGCS offers.
All volunteers will go through our fire drill, earthquake drill, active shooter drill, CPR training, and will receive safety handbook. We recommend volunteers to dress comfortably and wear closed toe shoes since they will be working with students in grades Tk-8th grade.
Students will need a resume and letter of interest in position. TB test and CPR card if available. Fingerprinting done with SDCOE. Please contact Marisol Cortes at mcortes@hgcschool.org if interested.
