Open Heart Kitchen

Organization Description

Open Heart Kitchen's mission is “Equitable access to nutritious food today while building a food secure tomorrow.”  Food insecurity are often intrinsically linked to poverty, housing insecurity, and other systemic issues. While the primary focus of OHK's work is to meet the immediate needs in the Tri-Valley, our organization also hopes to fight these systemic issues through community partnerships and the development of programs and infrastructure to create a more supportive future within the Tri-Valley Community. In January 2024, Open Heart Kitchen and the Housing Consortium of the East Bay opened Vineyard Resource Center in Livermore. Vineyard offers a free laundry and shower facility, Community Meal Program (which serves over 400 meals per day) and the opportunity to meet with other nonprofit organizations who offer access to healthcare, counseling, and housing support. Vineyard Resource Center also serves as the home for Open Heart Refuge, OHK's overnight shelter that offers year round support to adults without access to permanent housing. In addition to the programs offered at Vineyard, Open Heart Kitchen also operates serves sit down congregate meals to diners over 60 years old through our Senior Meal Program which operates in Dublin, Pleasanton and Livermore.  Students are welcome to partner with Open Heart Kitchen by volunteering for our Senior Meal Program, Community Meal Program, or Open Heart Refuge. For information about shift times and availability, please email volunteerservices@openheartkitchen.org
