Diabetes Youth Families

Organization Description

Diabetes Youth Families is a pioneering non-profit organization whose mission is to enhance the quality of life of people affected by type-1 diabetes. We accomplish this by providing camping, social, recreational, and educational services to children, teens, families, and community members affected by diabetes. DYF runs year-round programs for children, teens and families focused throughout the greater San Francisco Bay Area and Central California, as well as adventure backpacking programs and summer camp programs at Bearskin Meadow Camp and Camp de Los Ninos.

Program Information

This field placement is an opportunity to learn about chronic disease self-management, the intersection of physical/mental health and type 1 diabetes, and build skills in crisis management and de-escalation, mental health promotion, and program development and management. This learning experience will offer exposure to both micro and macro level skills, as there will be program development and one-on-one client/camper experience.
