Opportunity Summary 

The Agricultural & Nutrition Educator role at SEEAG is dedicated to our youth education programs across Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. This position entails working on-site at our office, partner farms, and elementary schools. The educator's core responsibilities encompass delivering engaging agricultural, STEM, nutrition, and wellness lessons to K-12 students, both within classrooms and during field trips. A dependable mode of transportation is required. Additionally, candidates must be comfortable standing for extended periods to educate (1-3 hours), and able to work outdoors, sometimes in challenging weather conditions (hot, wet, windy). By filling this position, you'll contribute to sparking young minds through interactive learning about agriculture's journey and food origins, aligning with our mission to foster community comprehension of food sources and promote healthy living.

Educational Outreach and Communication: Students will acquire the ability to effectively communicate complex concepts related to agriculture, STEM, nutrition, and wellness to a diverse audience of K-12 students. This skill is valuable in any career that involves explaining technical or intricate topics to different groups. Classroom Management: Working with students in classrooms and during field trips demands strong classroom management skills, including keeping students engaged, maintaining discipline, and adapting teaching methods to suit different learning styles. Knowledge of Agricultural and Nutrition Concepts: Through delivering lessons on agriculture, STEM, and nutrition, interns will gain a strong foundation in these essential concepts, which is beneficial for careers in fields related to food, health, and sustainability. Career Pathway Education: Educating students about different career opportunities within agriculture and related fields enhances interns' ability to guide students toward suitable career paths, valuable for roles involving career counseling or mentorship. Opportunity Training 

Direct Shadowing and Observation: Students will have the opportunity to learn directly by shadowing experienced coordinators and educators during program activities. This hands-on experience will provide insights into teaching techniques, classroom management, and interaction with students and community members. One-on-One Learning with Coordinators: Through one-on-one sessions with program coordinators, students will delve into the curriculum, understanding the core concepts, objectives, and teaching methodologies. This personalized learning approach ensures a deep understanding of the material. Independent Study: Dedicated independent study time will be provided, allowing students to familiarize themselves with agricultural, STEM, nutrition, and wellness concepts. This self-guided exploration will aid in comprehending the subject matter and developing confidence in teaching it.

Students should be aware of safety considerations during their involvement. They will interact with many student participants, spend time outdoors, and stand for extended periods. Additionally, they may be required to lift educational supplies during setup and breakdown. Adhering to safety guidelines, wearing appropriate attire, and using proper lifting techniques are crucial.
