Opportunity Summary 

Assists and shadows the academic counselor, who will be performing some of the following tasks -

 Provides comprehensive academic, career and financial aid advisement to a set caseload of SSS Program participants of various majors and academic class levels at CSUF.
Designs, monitors, and updates participant individual graduation plans. Identifies and develops strategies and activities for improving participants' academic development, achievement, career planning and interest in graduate education.
Provides educational support services to participants that recognize the academic and social needs of first generation, low-income and disabled students to increase retention and graduation rates in these populations.
Expands SSS academic, career and graduate school pathways and successful strategies for student persistence and graduation.
Assists participants in researching and completing financial aid and scholarship applications for graduate programs as well as completing admission requirements.
Assists with the supervision, training, and monitoring of program interns.
Maintains communication with SSS participants through program social media and other platforms.
Participates and coordinates student events for program outreach, college tours, academic workshops and cultural events.
May participate in staff/university/organizational meetings & professional training opportunities when permissible.
Tracks, updates, and maintains student files and database information.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to:

Demonstrate the ability to make effective decisions concerning a student's degree and career goals
Develop an educational plan for successfully achieving goals and select courses each semester to progress toward fulfilling your goals
Demonstrate an understanding of CSUF central values as expressed in its Mission Statement, its general education requirements, and the chosen course of study.
Help student's to utilize the resources and services on campus to assist them in achieving your academic, personal, and career goals.
Help make use of referrals to campus resources as needed.
You will be able to accurately read and effectively utilize a degree audit through the use of Degree/Program Evaluations and CSUF resources.
Work on grad plans for students.
