BMHS Historic Resource Inventory Survey (Spring 2025)At — Brea Museum & Historical Society

Opportunity Summary 

The Intern will conduct a historical resource inventory survey to identify, record, and evaluate residential properties within the city of Brea for the purpose of creating a photographic and written record of historic places. The record will be used to create a historic resource inventory, nominate individual residential homes to the historic registry and establish a historic district within the community. 

Tasks:

The Intern will perform historical context research on homes in specific neighborhoods in Brea.
The Intern will study and use a neighborhood map to chart a route to photograph the homes in the neighborhood.

Training:

Intern will first be trained as Docent to better understand the Museum's role in the community.
Intern will work with mapping staff to better understand the specific neighborhood to be surveyed.
Intern will train with in the field to take photographs and document architectural styles

Learning Outcomes:

1. Identify the architectural distinctions of Brea homes in the survey area
2. Compile, organize, and manage records for each home photographed
3. Research and draft context statements for each home photographed
4. Articulate the value of historic districts in Urban Planning

Additional risk specific to this opportunity 

When the student is in the neighborhood photographing homes, they will check in every hour with the Director.<\/p>
