Connect-OC InternAt — Partners4Wellness
Interns will specifically assist health educators assigned to the Connect-OC project and assist with event development, conducting outreach to community agencies, speakers/presenters, college students/faculty, and potential attendees to the events. Interns assist with the development of all program related campaign development, advertising, social media posts and engagement activities. Assist with developing educational presentations about mental health and wellness, specifically for youth/young adults 13-24. Interns will assist with developing and maintaining working relationships with college faculty/staff, students, youth/young adults, schools, community organizations, and community members. Reports to Program Director.
• Attend weekly staff meetings• Attend monthly Connect-OC Coalition meetings (all meetings provide education around a mental health topic that affects the 13-24 year old population).• Assist with outreach to community agencies to attend program hosted events.• Assist with planning, organizing, and hosting of events that seek to connect transitional aged youth and young adults to local mental health services and promote stigma reduction. (i.e, resource fairs)• Assist with the development of all program related campaign development, advertising, social media posts and engagement (including graphic design and video editing).• Attend related community meetings and events as needed• Work in a hybrid capacity, with ability to attend virtual meetings, work independently, and attend in-person events and/or collaborate with staff in the office to accomplish program tasks.
Training:
Interns will receive mandatory agency training ( Partners4Wellness policies and procedures, HIPPA guidelines, cultural competency training, as well as key administrative tasks, like how to complete the timesheet, how to access Canva, etc.) Additionally all interns will be required to attend one staff meeting per week to discuss relevant program goals, objectives, and deliverables. Throughout the internship, interns receive ‘hands-on’ training through the event planning process. Interns learn tools to help further group collaboration and brainstorming and developing actions plans to account for necessary components of planning an event (timelines, responsible parties, etc.). Interns receive training on utilization of Canva for the creation of promotional materials and social media posts. Lastly, interns are trained in the agency outreach policies and procedures and will learn how to conduct outreach, especially to community partners and/or participants for Connect-OC events.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to effectively organize, plan, and host large and small scale mental health focused events, design and develop social media campaigns to reach the 13-24 year old population with stigma reducing mental health messaging, design and develop educational presentations around mental health and wellness topics, and develop skills and strategies to effectively conduct outreach strategies to community based organizations, college faculty/staff, etc.
