What is Project Access?

Project Access is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that was founded in 1999. The seniors and families served by Project Access are “low-income”– that is, with incomes at or below 60% of the area median; and a substantial number are “very low-income” – often with incomes below $10,000 per year. Project Access runs resource centers at at over 100 properties throughout 16 states and provided direct services to over 22,000 people in need in 2022.

The Project Access Approach

Project Access works with housing developers/owners in a partial fee-for-service relationship to bring free services to residents within the housing community. This partial financial commitment and in-kind donation of space allows Project Access to bring additional resources together to develop comprehensive programs at our Resource Centers and offer a variety of programs and services to address individual and community needs.

The Internship

Interns play a fundamental role in providing relevant and quality programs to the communities we serve. Interns assist the coordinator with the daily operations and direct programming of the Family and Senior Resource Centers which benefit the residents of affordable housing. Interns will have the opportunity to define their role and respective responsibilities based on their particular skill set and learning objectives.

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to apply knowledge from hands-on leaning to real-world settings. Also, we plan to develop students' professional skills and shape their career interests.

Locations are available across Orange County and the surrounding area.

Background check is required for all participants.

Some examples of duties that the student(s) will be performing will be assisting with the planning and implementation of programs, assist the coordinator in the creation and planning of community-building events, assist with the instruction of onsite classes, programs, and other services, and maintain attendance records for programs, services, and events.

Training:

Some examples of training that we implement are Orientation, one-on-one mentor meetings (supervisions), job shadowing and hands-on learning.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to apply knowledge from hands-on leaning to real-world settings. Also, we plan to develop students' professional skills and shape their career interests.
