Opportunity Summary 

CAPC Internship:

-Assist in convening Orange County Child Abuse Prevention Council and Subcommittee meetings by ensuring parliamentary procedural functions of Council and committee meetings including recording minutes, attaining quorum, posting of agendas, Brown Act Compliance, etc.

-Develop public awareness materials addressing issues of child maltreatment and/or neglect in Orange County for distribution by CAPC

-Gather data on trends affecting children in Orange County which may benefit from a preventative campaign 

-Attend professional training workshops to develop core competencies and skills associated with child welfare and administrative prevention efforts

-Report and record data, outcomes, performance measures, and analysis of outcomes for CAPC monthly and annual reporting schema

-Attend weekly supervision, biweekly staff meetings, Council meetings, and committee meetings

Training:

Orange County's Child Abuse Prevention Council provides monthly workshops/training with approximately 1-2 CEU credit hours on child welfare topics such as mandated reporting, general neglect, Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), vicarious trauma, substance use disorder, resource family recruitment, mental or behavioral health, etc.

Learning Outcomes:

Student will learn to effectively apply parliamentary procedural administrative functions to ensure statutory and contractual compliance within a legally codified structure

Student will learn organizational hierarchy of nonprofit administration and differences in intergovernmental collaborative/contractual relationships

Student will learn administrative strategies for addressing the structural ambiguities of prevention-based collaborative efforts

Student will learn to analyze, interpret, and address child welfare trends through suggestion and creation of a document or documents that identify a community issue and proposes a solution

Student will learn to be effective, concise, and precise with language in drafting awareness materials representing the larger opinions of administrative groups

Student will increase topical understanding and knowledge of child welfare and child maltreatment topics through attendance of comprehensive and compulsory training opportunities, with CEUs attached

Student will feel more confident in understanding child maltreatment, child abuse prevention, and the administrative structures responsible for addressing child abuse in the context of Orange County and globally

The student will learn to assume responsibility for acquiring knowledge

Student will develop rapport with staff and community members at local FRC to refine macro-level (countywide) administrative concepts of child abuse prevention to micro-level direct service outcomes

Student will learn about about the communities the organization serves

Student will identify appropriate resources for ameliorating community needs

Student will learn to develop strategies for developing and coordinating the resources necessary to address prescient and pervasive community needs

Student will learn how to report contractual outcomes through organizational methods

Student will learn to analyze data to produce intelligence for County contract managers

Student will learn to analyze data and identify trends to prevent child abuse and neglect, as opposed to intervention

Student will learn significance of data for non-profit organizational contract management and fund development

Student will learn to collaborate within a team-first framework

Student will learn to effectively and actively participate within group meetings, utilizing Six Hats concepts

Student will develop rapport with direct supervisor to communicate ideas, needs, and next steps
