School Programs Aide - Elkhorn Slough ReserveAt — Elkhorn Slough Reserve
This service learner will work closely with our Education Staff to support K-12 school programs. They will help welcome students, participate in outdoor nature and science activities, and may support teachers leading students on trail walks.
This will involve:
- Collaborating with Education Staff to plan for the field trip day
- Support students as they learn outdoors with patience and excitement
- Share facts about the Reserve’s wildlife on short (~1 mile) walks
- Help keep track of supplies and set up/clean up activities when finished
The Wednesday schedule has intermittent school groups signed up for field trips so when not in the Field Trip program, the Wednesday Service Learner will join our volunteer Land Stewards group to help care for a variety of landscapes around the Reserve, including weeding, planting, and other environmental restoration activities.
Service learners will:
- Build skills in public engagement and science communication
- Use/develop skills in K-12 environmental education
- Learn how organizations develop and coordinate school programs.
