Opportunity Summary 

A graduate student will serve as a teaching assistant for COMM 434 - Magazine Editing & Production. The TA will supervise production of CSUF's annual campus magazine, liaise with off-campus vendors, provide feedback on undergraduate work, and fill in for lecture as needed.

- Manage a 20-person staff of journalists and public relations professionals
- Facilitate printing and production of a high-quality print and digital magazine
- Provide constructive feedback on undergraduate creative work
- Maintain a production calendar consistent with professional norms in journalism
- Exhibit leadership skills consistent with senior editor positions in the field

Training  

- Meet with the student TA privately for 30 mins - 1 hour each week
- Offer verbal and written feedback on their management and production skills
- Seek feedback from outside vendors re: the TA's communication skills
- Supervise the TA as she interacts with undergraduate students during class

Tasks/Duties  

- Supervising COMM 434 production meetings on Thursday afternoons, from 4 - 6:45 p.m. The TA is expected to attend all COMM 434 class meetings.
- Providing written and oral feedback to COMM 434 undergraduate students as needed during and outside of class.
- Attending weekly Zoom meetings with the instructor.
- Attending meetings with outside vendors, such as our printer or event vendors, as needed.
- Grading assignments as necessary.
- Meeting with undergraduate students as requested by the instructor.
- Offering guest lectures or in-class support in the event of instructor illness or emergency.
