Opportunity Summary 

OUR INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

UsedCardboardBoxes & UCBZeroWaste (UCB) designs, implements, and manages large-scale waste reduction programs that help major US companies reduce waste (cost) and increase recycling & reuse (revenue). We help them get to Zero Waste to Landfill at no out-of-pocket cost.

We are looking for a driven Accounting Intern with a basic understanding of financial principles and terms who is ready for an immersive, real-world experience. Under the supervision of our staff, the Accounting Intern can expect to participate in the preparation of journal entries and financial reports, analyze actual financial data, learn more about bookkeeping software, and assist with other accounting activities. You should be a motivated team player who can maintain efficiency and accuracy when multitasking.

INTERNSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Shadowing members of the Accounting department as they perform their duties.
  • Assisting with research, filing, data entry, and recording and maintaining accurate and complete financial records.
  • Preparing financial reports, such as balance sheets and income statements, invoices, and other documents.
  • Working with bookkeeping software.
  • Handling sensitive or confidential information with honesty and integrity.
  • Learning how to work as part of the Accounting team to compile and analyze data, track information, and support the company or clients.
  • Taking on additional tasks or projects to learn more about accounting and office operations.
     

REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be a recent graduate or actively working towards a Bachelor’s or Masters in Accounting or related field.
  • Aptitude for math, proficiency with computers.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of efficiency, accuracy, and responsibility.
  • Motivation and a strong desire to take on new challenges and learn as much as possible.
  • Must have a passion for the environment and helping people/companies reduce environmental impact.
  • Must be committed to work, at least, 2 days/week onsite.

Training:

The Intern will be working with UCB'S accounting team and/or other internal departments with finance-related tasks. The intern will report to our LA office at least twice a week and will have the opportunity to work directly with our CEO and CFO. He/she will also do job shadowing as stated in the description.

Learning Outcomes:

Identify and interpret accounting information to inform clients and make decisions.
Apply critical thinking skills by identifying and analyzing accounting issues using relevant accounting frameworks.
Perform and prepare basic accounting/financial-related tasks and reports on their own.
