Clinical Social Work Internship/PracticumAt — Santa Cruz City Schools

Opportunity Summary 

Interns would be working under the Social Emotional Counselor at Harbor High is learning about and assisting with providing drop-in counseling available to all students, individual and/or group counseling to students with tier 2/tier 3 needs, linking students to outside mental health providers, providing consultation for parents and guardians, and crisis de-escalation and safety planning. They will work collaboratively with their school site staff (administration, teachers, Special Education department, etc.) as well as the district Social Workers to meet students' social, emotional, and mental health needs.

Opportunity Training 

Students will receive weekly individual supervision from their practicum instructor with additional meetings to provide them with training in areas such as, short-term counseling methods, crisis and safety planning, and the policies and procedures of school-based services. Students may also have the opportunity to participate in external trainings, which have been offered in the past by the district, county office of education, and community organizations (e.g., mental health first aid, suicide assessment, etc.)
