MSWI and MSWII School Counseling Interns At — Aspire Public Schools - Sac - Alex Twilight College Prep-Sac
Alexander Twilight Secondary Academy is a secondary school, serving students in 6th through 12th grades. This internship will offer experience in group and individual counseling with students. If you are interested in obtaining your PPSC, our school is a middle and high school which will satisfy the 450 hours needed toward this credential in two different age group settings.
The student will have learned how to build rapport with students, create counseling goals and utilize different approach frameworks and therapeutic interventions to help the student reach those goals. The student will understand how to write progress notes, fill out referrals, complete closing summaries and collect feedback from their students at the end of allotted sessions. The student will have an understanding of how and when to contact CPS. They will get the opportunity to shadow their supervisor to see how suicide and threat assessments are conducted and what documentation to complete. The student will also get the opportunity to work with different school officials as part of a multidisciplinary team. Finally, the student will have learned how to engage with families and help case manage for the students they are assigned.
The student will be trained in: common therapeutic modalities such as CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, etc. how to conduct suicide and homicidal threat assessments. the school's policies and procedures how to create an agenda for counseling groups and individual meetings with students how to track their student’s progress and evaluate whether or not interventions are working how to file a CPS report and when to report how to engage with families
