Counseling InternAt — Gender Health Center

Opportunity Summary 

Under direct supervision of a licensed clinical supervisor, you will provide individual, family, group, and/or relational counseling and therapy services, utilizing a strengths-based, client-centered approach.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

Critical thinking and critical self-reflection as well as how to support client self-determination, deliver culturally responsive and competent care to LGBTQ+ community members, collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team, perform initial client assessments and treatment planning, advocate for community members, provide Narrative Therapy based interventions (including reflection teams, live supervision, insider witness, externalizing question formation, and more), refer to other community resources/specialists (i.e.: our medical legal partnership), utilize Narrative Therapy, Harm Reduction, and Informed Consent frameworks for ethical community member-centered treatment decisions, comply with mandatory reporting of child and elder abuse requirements, maintain accurate and up-to-date case records including progress notes and evaluations, utilize Feedback Informed Treatment to monitor community member well-being and the course of treatment, and more.

Opportunity Training 

Counseling interns will undergo approximately 40 hours of onboarding training, shadow counseling sessions, mock intake session, weekly narrative seminar, and additional training as available.
