Educational Support Professional At — Futures Explored - Vocational Training & Employment (VTE)

Opportunity Summary 

This is an opportunity for a paid position which includes benefits if working more than 20 hours/week. In this position, interns will support adults with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (Participants) to attend college and engage in social opportunities. Support includes assisting Participants in enrollment, time management, organization, navigating campus resources, advocacy, and learning and practicing social skills. Support also includes community trips with participants for community immersion.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

An overview of California's Regional Center system, experience working with a variety of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, person centered practices and techniques in support of people with I/DD, mandated reporting guidelines and process, rights of people with I/DD, risk assessments, writing Individual Service Plans, writing Case Notes.

Opportunity Training 

Students will receive training in best practices for support of individuals with I/DD. Focus will be placed on teaching person centered support techniques, supported decision making, and communication. Training will also include the role and responsibility of a Direct Support Professional in providing and documenting services and navigating the community college system.
