If you are a liberal studies or child development undergraduate student needing 30 observation hours or more, the requirements are:

• complete volunteer application
• fingerprints
• TB test
• Driver's License
• Mandated Reporter Training

If you are a liberal studies or child development undergraduate student needing 29 observation hours or less, the requirements are:

• complete volunteer application
• TB test
• Driver's License

Level  I
Limited volunteer activities under the  direct supervision of a TUSD employee. 
Classroom observation; assisting students one hour or less per month; assisting with school events fewer than four times per year. 
Level II
Regular volunteer activities under the direct supervision of a TUSD employee. 
Assisting students for more than one hour per month; volunteering more than four times per year. 
Level III
Volunteers who may interact with students outside the immediate supervision and control of a TUSD employee. 
Field trip chaperones, overnight chaperones; interns, volunteers working independently or 
without staff supervision with students, drivers transporting students, other assignments determined by the site administrator. 
 

Placement Approval & Application Routing:

• Students should first contact individual TUSD school sites directly to receive site placement and approval for Level II volunteer experiences. This is for the student that will always be under the direct oversight of a TUSD employee.  This is typical for general observation hours.
• If the placement requires independent supervision of students, such as student teaching, the student will need to complete the Level III Volunteer Packet and submit it to the TUSD Human Resources Department (we are located at 1574 E. Canal Drive).

Fingerprinting (DOJ / FBI Clearance):

• Fingerprint clearance is required only for Level III placements.  However, CSU Stan liberal studies students are cleared by the university directly at your Stan State Police Department in this respect and if the university attests to their fingerprints we sign off this particular area.
• All other Level III student placements may use the Stan State Police Department or any certified Live Scan provider, provided they use TUSD’s official Live Scan Request Form (which contains our District ORI code so results route directly to TUSD HR).

Tuberculosis (TB) Clearance Requirements:

• TB clearances (risk assessment, skin test, or blood test) are valid for 4 years from the date of the test/assessment for volunteers. 
• Students who have a valid TB clearance from within the past 4 years may simply attach a copy of that documentation to their application packet for us to review and approve.
