Opportunity Summary 

Occupational Therapy Aide

Duties:

  • Prepare treatment areas, such as setting up therapy equipment
  • Transport clients
  • Clean treatment areas and equipment
  • Assist occupational therapy under direct supervision 

1. File client records; transfer scores and narrative data from evaluations to online scoring system in order to generate report for the occupational therapist

2. Prepare and maintain direct treatment areas and maintain inventory of therapy equipment and materials

3. Transfer clients to and from the therapy work space; assist occupational therapist during treatment sessions under direct supervision

4. Observe clients progress, attitudes, and successes during treatment and communicate that effectively in written form, email, or in person to necessary supervisors and peers

5. Complete creativity assignment (written) that will require intern to select items generally found in a person’s home and determine how those items can be used during therapy sessions to work toward client’s therapeutic goals.

Training:

1. Provide initial orientation of job site policy’s including safety requirements and procedures, OSHA, and review of HIIPA guidelines applicple to the interns position

2. Provide observational and hands on- opportunities for intern to learn day-to-day task requirements of an occupational therapy aide

3. Provide weekly mentorship check-ins to discuss progress, concerns, and establish the following week’s goals and learning objectives

4. Provide hand- outs and access to evidence-based research as needed through our computers and printed materials for intern to expand knowledge on occupational therapy techniques

5. Provide assignments for intern to complete to gain a foundational knowledge base on working with children with developmental disabilities and to help clients achieve their occupational goals

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to:

1. Prepare and maintain work area, materials, and equipment, and maintain inventory of treatment and educational supplies

2. Observe clients attendance, progress, attitudes, and accomplishments and record and maintain information in client records

3. Transport clients to and from the occupational therapy work area

4. Transfer data and scores from evaluations into the scoring system in order to generate report for the occupational therapist’s review

5. Effectively Communicate with supervisors and peers by phone, written form, email, and in person
