4th Grade Teacher AssistantAt — St. Margaret's Episcopal School
The Teacher Assistant Intern will work under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher to support various aspects of classroom management, instruction, and student engagement. This unpaid internship provides an opportunity for academic credit and hands-on experience in an elementary school setting. The intern will assist with tasks such as classroom setup, lesson preparation, student supervision, grading, and communication with parents/guardians.
Assist with classroom setup and organization before and after lessons.
Help prepare teaching materials such as worksheets, handouts, and visual aids.
Provide one-on-one or small group support to students during class activities and assignments.
Assist in managing classroom behavior and ensuring a positive learning environment.
Aid in supervising students during recess, and other non-academic activities.
Help grade assignments and provide feedback to students.
Assist in communicating with parents/guardians regarding student progress and any concerns.
Participate in staff meetings and professional development sessions as required.
Support Mr. Moses with administrative tasks such as photocopying, filing, and organizing paperwork.
Assist with any other tasks as directed by Mr. Moses to support the smooth operation of the classroom.
Training:
Job Shadowing: Keaira Maxwell will have the opportunity to shadow experienced teachers and teacher assistants to observe classroom management techniques, instructional strategies, and student engagement practices. This hands-on experience allows Keaira to gain practical insights into effective teaching methods and classroom dynamics.
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the academic internship, Keaira will be able to effectively support classroom management by implementing strategies to promote a positive learning environment, manage student behavior, and assist in maintaining order during instructional activities.
Keaira will also be able to demonstrate proficiency in assisting with lesson preparation and delivery by effectively utilizing teaching materials, supporting instructional activities, and providing one-on-one or small group assistance to students as needed.
By the end of the academic internship, Keaira will be able to communicate effectively with students, parents/guardians, and colleagues by demonstrating active listening skills, clear verbal communication, and professional written communication in various contexts, such as parent-teacher conferences, email correspondence, and classroom interactions.
Keaira will engage in self-assessment and goal-setting, and applying constructive feedback to enhance their performance as a Teacher Assistant
