Child and Youth Development Volunteer: La HabraAt — YMCA of Orange County

Opportunity Summary 

The YMCA of Orange County has openings for Transitional kindergarten volunteers/ interns and 1st-6th grade interns in the La Habra area.

The Volunteers are responsible for maintaining a positive controlled environment while meeting the needs of all children. They will assist the YMCA staff in planning and carrying out a curriculum based on the needs and interests of children. This includes general supervision to ensure safety, assisting with program areas, and general maintenance. The hours for this position are Monday 1-5 pm, Tuesday to Friday 2p-5 pm. Our highest need is Monday and Thursday but we can accommodate your school schedule. 

Tasks
Assist Staff in curriculum implementation
Lead Lessons
Support Safety and Supervision and learn about headcounts
Lead outdoor games
Helping with sign-in and sign-out of students
Help monitor attendance and pick-ups
Assist in daily prep
Minor classroom clean-up

Training
Volunteers will receive an orientation, Child Abuse Prevention Training, Safety and Supervision Training, staff shadowing, and curriculum training. They will meet with the Program Director bi-weekly.

Lead a lesson with comfort and ease
Collaborate with multi-level staff in the education system
Learn about child safety and protocols used by the YMCA to keep kids safe
