Friends of Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge

Organization Description

Friends groups are partnership organizations of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and consist of citizens and volunteers that have formed Non Profit 501 (c) 3 organizations, such as the Friends of the Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge. These organizations have a mission of supporting the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service in management activities and preservation efforts of the Nation’s Refuges. The Friends of Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge are unique with a dual partnership also with the United States Navy.

Health & Safety

Our volunteer group is mainly composed of retired individuals, and these will be the individuals on site supervising most of the time. Sometimes we work with individuals and veterans with disabilities as we are on a military base, and we often give tours that include children.

Photography or video of any military infrastructure or personnel is not allowed on base. If individuals do get access to the refuge, they must respect access restrictions due to sharing the space with the Naval Weapons Station.

Unless we can grant student access to the base on their own standards, students will be escorted into the Refuge and supervised during volunteer activities. However, remote work like data entry will not be supervised.
