Hospice Care InternAt — High Desert Psychological Group
Intern will be able to get an overview of Hospice care and end of life issues. Intern will visit patients and families in their homes to assess for needs, including medication management for pain and other medical issues that arise. Intern will also learn about grief and intervention and bereavement resources. The student will not be alone with patients . The intent is for the intern to observe the nurse with an opportunity to interact with the patient.
Tasks:
Intern to interact with patients to learn about their medical history and chart accordingly.
Intern will talk with patient and family about end of life measures and identify areas of concern and acceptance.
Intern will attend Interdisciplinary Rounds for patient discussion and add interventions and observations as needed
Intern will be able to write a simple care plan with goals for the patient.
Training:
Intern will meet with supervisor weekly to discuss cases and review learning. Intern will use process recordings to identify areas where they felt uncomfortable/comfortable and their feelings in the moment.
Intern will shadow nurses to complete basic assessments and care planning. Intern will learn how to document vitals and care plan in medical chart.
Learning Outcome:
Intern will learn basic medical terminology
Intern will learn how to do a basic patient assessment with simple care plan
Intern will learn how to interact with patients and good bedside mannerisms
Intern will learn cross cultural communication and patient care.
