Opportunity Summary 

As an Athletic Training Intern, you will work closely with our certified athletic trainer to support the delivery of high-quality healthcare to our athletes. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain practical experience in the field of sports medicine, injury prevention, and rehabilitation. The successful candidate will work directly with athletes, coaches, and the athletic training staff to contribute to the overall success of our sports programs.

Assist in Injury Assessment: Work alongside certified athletic trainers to evaluate and assess athlete injuries, including on-field assessments and in-clinic evaluations.

Rehabilitation Support: Collaborate in the implementation of injury rehabilitation programs, including exercise prescription, modalities, and therapeutic interventions.

First Aid and Emergency Response: Assist in providing immediate care in emergency situations, including on-field emergencies and practice/game coverage.

Documentation and Record-Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of athlete evaluations, treatment plans, and progress reports.

Collaboration with Multidisciplinary Team: Engage with coaches, strength and conditioning staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive and integrated athlete care.

Educational Opportunities: Participate in educational sessions and workshops provided by the athletic training staff to enhance knowledge and skills in the field.

Community Outreach: Contribute to community outreach initiatives, including educational programs, workshops, and events promoting injury prevention and sports safety.

Training:

CPR Training, Weekly Reflection Journals, Hands-on experience with common sport injuries of current sports in season.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Comprehensive Injury Assessment and Evaluation:
Upon completion of the internship, the Athletic Training Intern will be able to proficiently conduct comprehensive injury assessments and evaluations. This includes the ability to identify and analyze various sports-related injuries, utilize appropriate assessment techniques, and communicate findings effectively to the supervising athletic trainer.

2. Effective Rehabilitation Program Implementation:
The Athletic Training Intern will develop the skills necessary to contribute to the implementation of effective injury rehabilitation programs. This includes understanding and applying principles of therapeutic exercise, modalities, and rehabilitation techniques. The intern should be capable of assisting in the design and execution of rehabilitation plans tailored to individual athlete needs.

3. Emergency Response and First Aid Competency:
By the end of the internship, the intern will be proficient in emergency response and first aid procedures. This includes the ability to assess and respond to on-field emergencies, administer immediate care, and collaborate with other healthcare professionals. The intern should be confident and competent in handling various emergency scenarios commonly encountered in athletic settings.

4. Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Communication:
The Athletic Training Intern will develop strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively collaborate with members of the multidisciplinary sports team. This involves working closely with coaches, strength and conditioning staff, and other healthcare professionals. The intern will be capable of conveying relevant information, participating in discussions, and contributing to the overall well-being of athletes through collaborative efforts.
