Victim Advocate InternAt — SAFE Family Justice Centers
Victim advocate interns with SAFE Family Justice Centers will be offered a unique opportunity for interns to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families impacted by violence while gaining valuable skills and experience in the field of victim advocacy. Interns will shadow victim advocates, learn safety planning, triage client crises, resource/referral management, document client contacts, screen client intakes via phone and in-person, and have the opportunity to attend SAFE FJC’s 40-hour Domestic Violence training to become Certified Domestic Violence Counselors.
Victim advocate interns can expect to acquire a range of knowledge and skills that are essential for supporting victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and other forms of abuse. Students will learn about the role of victim advocates in supporting individuals who have experienced trauma, develop crisis intervention skills, learn how to utilize trauma-informed care, how to provide effective short-term and long-term case management, how to collaborate with multidisciplinary community partners, and how to maintain accurate and confidential client records.
Interns will be trained through a combination of individual or group instruction, shadowing experienced advocates, hands-on experiences, online trainings, and optional workshops/seminars. Additionally, interns will receive ongoing supervision and support from experienced staff members to ensure they are effectively applying their knowledge and skills in a real-world setting.
Our application is located under the "Volunteer" tab on our website and is to be filled out and sent to our general information email (info@safefamiliesca.org).
